Tractor Spraying Fields

On Monday, May 3, 2021, N.C. Cooperative Extension of Clay County is hosting two in-person pesticide workshops at the Community Services Building located at 25 Riverside Circle, Hayesville, NC 28904. Both classes are free. Space is limited. Please call 828-389-6305 to reserve your spot. 

Title: Pesticide Safety Recertification Class V for Private Pesticide Applicators
Time: 10 a.m. –noon
Credits: 2 credits hours – Category  V

Description: NC State Extension and N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services are partnering to teach pesticide safety to private pesticide applicators. Participants will receive 2 hours of V credit towards maintaining their North Carolina Pesticide Applicators license (private applicators only). Presentation topics include “EPA Updates and NCDA&CS Environmental Programs”, “Herbicide Resistance” and “How Does Water Quality Influence Pesticide Performance.” 

Title: Pasture Weed Management
Time: 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Credits: 1 credit, DKNOX

Description: This one-hour, one-credit course for private pesticide applicators will focus on weed management in pastures. This will include a discussion of how to identify common pasture weeds and describe various methods for managing weeds in pastures. 

Both classes will be taught by Lisa Gonzalez, Clay County Extension Agent, and Scott Few, NCDA&CS Pesticide Inspector I. 

Please note all NC State Extension programs follow current CDC guidelines which currently include wearing a mask, proper hand hygiene, and staying home if you feel ill.
