Description:

Currituck County 4-H is hosting a trip to Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck NC.

Sylvan Heights Bird Park provides visitors an unforgettable up-close experience with over 2,000 waterfowl, parrots, toucans, flamingos, and other exotic birds from around the world. The 18-acre facility features spacious, walk- through aviaries displaying birds from South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. The aviaries are surrounded by tranquil gardens and lush natural areas, which enhance the beauty of the birds on exhibit and immerse visitors in native North Carolina wildlife habitat.

During our walk through of the park youth will have the opportunity to feed the parakeets and pink flamingos while we visit the birds located in one section of the park. Youth will also participate in a Creature Comparison program which highlights the special features that help the animals survive in their environment, and the physical adaptations that they have for survival. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the live animals to compare and contrast their adaptations.

We are excited to offer this program and we have been able to significantly reduce the cost of this program through a generous wildlife educational grant from the Albemarle Area Quail Unlimited organization.

Space is limited so please do not hesitate in signing you child up for this fun field trip. Once you have completed the eventbrite registration please visit this link https://v2.4honline.com and complete the 4-H online registration. This will register your child in 4-H for the year.
