Collapse ▲The Pasquotank County Extension Center along with Advisory Members and 4-H’ers kicked off Farm-City Week by preparing biscuits and delivering them to members of our community on Wednesday, November 20. Farm City Week will be held November 22-29. The annual event, which ends on Thanksgiving, was designed to remind us of the journey food takes to reach our plates. Farmers grow it, and many hands help it travel from fields to our families. This celebration strengthens the bond between rural and urban communities, highlighting their joint effort to feed the nation.
The importance of this week lies in appreciation and awareness. It’s a chance to recognize the effort behind our meals. Everyone plays a part, from the farmers who raise crops and livestock to the city folks who bring it to our tables. This week encourages us to think about that process and be thankful for it.
Some of the ways you can celebrate Farm City week include:
- Visit a local farm or farmers market
- Cook a farm-fresh meal using locally sourced ingredients
- Learn about sustainable farming practices
- Attend educational events hosted by agricultural organizations
- Support local farmers by buying directly from them
- Share your experiences on social media using #FarmCityWeek, and encourage others to appreciate the connection between rural and urban communities by discussing where their food comes from
Thank you to all of our local farmers for their hard work dedication and food they provide. Make sure to thank a farmer this week! #farmcityweek2024
