Description:

Update! Due to speaker time constraints, we have to restructure our class. The Monday and Friday offerings will be canceled, and the online section will be a livestream of the Wednesday in-person meeting from 10:00 am to noon. To compensate, the Wednesday class will offer more spaces for in-person participants. We will also livestream the class and provide a recording if you aren’t able to attend. If you’d like to watch the livestream of the class, please sign up for the online section of the class. In addition to the recordings, we’ll provide publications and in-depth videos for each of the plants that we’ll cover in class.

Are you interested in starting your own fruit or berry plants? Maybe you’ve grown them in the past, and had no luck, or maybe you’re looking for a more bountiful harvest? If this sounds like you, or if you’re interested in fruits and berries, N.C. Cooperative Extension Currituck County Center has the class for you. This March, we will be offering a 2 hour, outdoor, hands-on class where we’ll head to our teaching orchard to discuss winter maintenance. We will cover pruning, mulching, dormant season fungicide sprays, site selection, planting, and more! Plants covered will include: peaches, blueberries, grapes, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries.

This in-person, hand-on class will be limited in attendance due to current COVID-19 regulations. Participants must wear a mask throughout the duration of the class, and maintain 6ft distance between each other. With these regulations in mind, we will be offering the class for 12 people. Class will begin at the Currituck County Extension Office, 120 Community Way, Barco, from 10:00 am - Noon on March 3rd. Classes will be held rain or shine, so make sure to dress appropriately. If a class has to be canceled for hazardous weather, an email will notify participants. There will also be an online, livestream of the class held in conjunction with the live class on Wed. March 3rd for anyone who is more comfortable with online classes, or if a class gets canceled.

To sign up for one of our Small Fruit and Orchard Winter Maintenance classes, head over to our Eventbrite signup page. This page will include additional publications related to class material, as well as short videos on orchard topics. If you have questions about the class, or if you need accommodations for persons with disabilities please contact Adam Formella at 252-232-2262 or email adam_formella@ncsu.edu no later than five business days before the event.
